Meet Your Guides

"...I was really impressed with the organization of everything, had a lot of fun, learned about birch bark sunglasses, and got to hang out with a cool dog (I love dogs), and a cool guide; so that was the highlight for me." - Leslie Plant, Markham

Laurel brings whimsy, wonder and deep gratitude to wilderness trips. She will brew you a cup of delightful woodland tea. She'll breathe in the splendor of a golden sunset with you, while sharing wisdom stories and quiet. Stay up a little later and enjoy star gazing - sleep-out anyone?

Laurel's family is convinced she lives on wild roots and berries but really, she is a guerrilla tree planter during her free time.

Joshua Nasielski "NASIELSKI!!!" PDF Print E-mail

Wilderness Guide

Josh has been guiding canoe trips with LUNA since 2011, but his passion for wilderness canoeing began much earlier, during family canoe trips in Algonquin Provincial Park. He has canoed and kayaked across Canada. While working as a fisheries scientist in south east Asia he conducted several whitewater expeditions on the Mekong River in Laos and Cambodia.

Josh's passion has always been canoe tripping. Guiding canoe trips allows him to share this passion with others, and he gains a tremendous sense of personal fulfillment and joy from the privilege of introducing others, often for the first time, to wilderness canoe tripping. You will definitely gain an deep appreciation of the natural world and hopefully, a new perspective to bring back with you once you've finished the trip.

Joshua is an ORCKA certified Canoe Tripping Instructor, Basic Canoe Instructor, and is also a WMA certified Wilderness First Responder. Importantly, he maintains a valid and up-to-date designation as a certified and bona fide LUNAtic!

Wilderness Guide

To quote Kat, "there's nothing like waking up to the mighty white pines overhead and a canoe ready to run rapids to start a day off right; or snowshoeing in the backwoods of Ontario as the sun's setting and the stars are starting to peak through the twilight to really feel the magic of the earth; or working up a deer in the back of a pick up truck in the Appalachian foothills to feel overwhelming gratitude." These are the reasons why that in the last 5 years she has spent more time living amongst the trees than anywhere else, and some of the many reasons why we're so darn excited to have Kat join our growing Luna family.

With a background in theatre, psychology and environmental studies as well as being certified as a yoga instructor, a Wilderness First Responder through WMA and accredited in ORCKA swift water canoeing and swift water rescue, Kat is able to see the natural world through multiple lenses and this has strengthened her own relationship to the earth and her ability to teach in and about the outdoors.  You're sure to be in good hands with Kat at the stern.
